Todays's Question:
Happy Mother’s Day! Who is your favorite mom from fiction?


This question is surprisingly difficult to answer, seeing as most YA parents end up dead or missing sooner or later :) The moms that do exist are usually really awesome which is why I find it incredibly hard to choose. Mrs. Weasley is certainly one of the best moms ever, so caring and friendly and happy with her family. I adored Lina's mom in Between Shades of Grey, too, though. She was so, SO strong and I admired the faith she had in her husband and children and also the people around her.

    I totally agree, I also read a lot of YA & it was so hard to pick! But yeah Mrs Weasley is awesome :)

    So many people chose Mrs. Weasley! She's awesome. But I've never read Between Shades of Grey! My friend highly recommended it to me though :)

      I find it pretty annoying sometimes. Parents, no matter of both or just one of them very often just don't exist in YA and I find that authors are making it too easy for themselves that way. Especially since most of us readers do have at least one parent that does interfere in our every-day lives. But enough of that, thanks for the follow!

    Yeah, I always find it odd that in YA parents are absent or dead. Of course that's how Disney rolls too. Up until Rapunzel (Tangled) Aurora was the only princess to have both her parents/mother. It'd be a matter of arguing if Mulan is a princess or not since she had both parents too. I didn't really consider her one like Disney tends to lately, Pocahontas--can't spell today!--I can make a bit of an argument for her being a princess since she's the cheif's daughter, but her mother was absent too.

    And while I don't always like the parents being absent or dead in YA, I am kind of hypocrite since the YA story idea I'm trying to write, amongst other ideas, has the mom dead. But it's one I tried writing years ago and she was already dead and I find that it benefits the story that way.

    Sometimes that missing parent allows our hero/heroine a strength they might not have had otherwise.

      Ha, I like the Disney argument! I think there even was a group of parents who protested against there never being mom and dad in their TV shows (eg Hannah Montana)...And it's true, sometimes a missing parent can benefit the story, but often I feel like it's just very convenient there's no/a completely ignoring parent so that characters can just sneak out and save the world whenever they feel like it... :)

    Jeez, this is a hard question. I feel like I the parents in YA are often absent or the focus is on the dad for some reason! Weird.

    I definitely agree with your Mrs. Weasley pick! I remember really liking the mom from MEANT TO BE by Lauren Morrill as well... she was very supportive of the MC!
